Current Applications for the Academic Year 2024-2025
Allison Trainque: Vice President
Hello, my name is Allison Trainque and I am interested in the position of Vice President. I believe I would be a great fit for the position because I have previously held the Philanthropy position in Theta Phi Alpha and was Vice President of Greek Council. I was able to host two successful events for community service/philanthropy hours and I enjoyed doing it. I think it is really important to try and find ways to get more people involved in community service and volunteering because it is an amazing thing to help other people. A few ideas I would try and get approved are making DIY blankets and donating them to local charities, volunteering at a soup kitchen or an animal shelter because there are some in Salem that I have talked to before for other positions that are willing to work with us, having a clothing/food and toiletry drive and donating it all to locate charities, cleaning up parks/beaches to make the environment cleaner, and more. I hope to be your next Vice President and represent you all to the best of my ability.
Ariana Barrows: Vice President and President
Hi! I am Ariana Barrows and I am ALD’s current Vice President. I feel as though I would be a great fit for next year because I am a great example of an all-around student on campus! I am a student-athlete and play volleyball here, so I would be a great example of a student-athlete to all of my fellow athletes on campus. In terms of school, I feel like I know a good amount of people and professors and could get great insight into what the student body needs and what ALD events would be of best interest to the community. I have been in the National Junior Honor Society (in middle school) and the National Honor Society (in high school). I am very serious about school and being a student first. I think that is a very important quality! I consider myself to be kind, open-minded, and an overall leader. I would be honored to take the role of being Vice President again. Having experience as an ALD member already and being a rising Junior would make me a great fit for this position. I would be very interested in setting up more social events to bring people closer and create a more fun environment for ALD. I feel like ALD isn’t taken as seriously as it should be, and I want to work to change that (and be a part of that change). ALD overall is a community of intelligent, hard-working, and all-around good people, and I know that I am a great representation of that. I loved being a part of the ALD board for one year and would love the opportunity to do it again and do an even better job! I would love to be that role-model for other students here and help push them to success.
Greg O'Connor: Vice President
Leadership is something I hold very close to my heart. In high school, I held three positions in my high school's Student Council including Publicity Coordinator, Historian, and Vice President, along with holding a regional Publicity Coordinator position. Being in these roles taught me extremely valuable leadership skills, especially serving on the regional board, called SEMASC. While on the SEMASC board, we planned three conferences consisting of 32 schools, and as a board, we got to handle the partnership for the year. We chose Dana Farber as our yearlong partner, and donated handmade care baskets, cards, and a signed canvas mural all throughout the year. Since I was Publicity Coordinator, I handled the communication between the board and Dana Farber, which is why I want to run to be Vice President of ALD. I’ve been in a Vice President role before, and I have handled communication with an organization before, giving me the necessary tools and skills to be able to plan a community service/volunteer opportunity in the next academic year. I take leadership and academics very seriously, so this would be an amazing opportunity for me to show my skills and make a difference with ALD. I believe in helping regionally/locally which is why I would like to implement a volunteer event helping a local business or charity, run similarly to the First Year Day of Service. Feedback from the general body members would be useful in picking out what organization we would partner with.
Arianna Nuvoli: President and Social Media Coordinator
Hello. I will be looking to re-apply for the position of Social Media Coordinator, as well as apply for President. I believe I will be a good fit, as I am currently holding an E-Board position for ALD. I work well in dynamic, fast-paced environments, have an eye for creativity, and enjoy creating social media posts and up-keeping the ALD website, which I am currently doing. I work well with other people and strive to create a welcoming environment for myself and peers. I currently hold a job in the First Year Experience Office here at Salem State, while also working in the Writing Center. Both jobs helped me work towards skills that will be beneficial as Social Media Coordinator. I create social media posts for the FYE office, and therefore am skilled with Canva. In the Writing Center, I work with incoming students to help them fine-tune their writing skills and help the students with anything else they may need. Within both positions, I offer support to those who are looking for it. I work towards creating a respectful, welcoming, and accepting environment, and hope to continue to do the same moving forward in my ALD E-Board career.
If I was re-elected/elected for a position, I would want to continue to “modernize” the social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, website, ect.), as well as incorporating new events. I think that we had good ones this year, however I think that incorporating more “lowkey” events will create a better community within the ALD chapter at SSU, rather than just professional events. Something like an ice cream social, or something like de-stressing yoga, could be one of the events that we do. By creating a stronger connection within ALD, it will lead to a more successful student body. Thank you for your time!
